Heat supply system is a complicated technological prosses consisting of the production - transportation - distribution and consumption.
Heat supply system is centralized and autonomous.
District heating is transported through the heating network to one or more heating devices of residential, public, industrial and other buildings by heating the heat carrier (water) at the expense of heat from fuel combustion in boilers. The Thermal Power Plant (TPP), District Heating Boiler (DHC) or local type boilers are used as a centralized heat source in the country.
Autonomous heating supply systems are intended to provide heat to individual residential or non-residential areas in an autonomous heating furnaces (combi, gas or wood stove, etc.) at the expense of heat energy obtained from fuel combustion.
The basis of the heating system in Azerbaijan was established in early XIX century on the bases of the Baku Electricity Center, which has the ability to produce electricity and heat in Baku. Initially, it was planned to supply only nearby refineries with industrial steam, but later due to the expansion of heat engineering communications network, other consumers began to be supplied with heat energy.
In the same period, the most efficient heat system was a local type of boilers, which could serve only one or two buildings and was mainly designed in a way to run with fuel oil.
This is the form of a centralized heating system that laid the foundation for the future heating system of Baku.
Starting from the 60s of the last century, due to the construction of new residential estates in Baku and other industrial cities of the country, a new heating system - a system of highly centralized and district heating boilers system consisting of modern boiler units was introduced.
In the large cities of the country (Sumgayit, Ganja, Mingachevir, Shirvan, etc.) different heating options (Electricity Center, local boiler system, individual, etc.) were used, depending on its local conditions and the current state of fuel and energy complex.
In small towns and districts the individual heating options using different fuels (gas, wood, kerosene, etc.) are widespread, due to the predominance of individual housing stock.
Centralized heating supply covers only a few high-rise residential buildings and modern educational, health and other administrative buildings.
“Azeristiliktechizat” OJSC was established by the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan No.847 on June 8, 2005 on improving the management in the field of heat supply in the Republic of Azerbaijan.
