The next interviewee of the Career Blog is Samir Yusifov, Senior Specialist of the Energy Monitoring Section of the Energy Regulation and Monitoring Department at the Azerbaijan Energy Regulatory Agency (AERA). Samir Yusifov earned a bachelor’s degree with honors in ‘Heat and Power Engineering’ from Mingechevir Polytechnic Institute (now Mingechevir State University) and completed his master’s degree in ‘Fuel and Water Technologies in Heat and Power Plants’ at Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU).

He began his career at AERA in 2018 as an inspector at the Shirvan branch. His performance was highly appreciated by management, leading to his appointment as Leading Inspector of the Shirvan branch in 2020, Senior Inspector of the same branch in 2022, and Senior Inspector of the Baku branch in 2023.

Currently, he continues his career as Senior Specialist of the Energy Monitoring Section under the Agency’s Energy Regulation and Monitoring Department.


How would you describe your role at AERA?

Overall, my activities involve overseeing branch operations in the electric power sector, verifying compliance with normative-legal requirements, and analyzing enterprise performance. Additionally, my work includes reviewing, processing, analyzing, and evaluating monitoring-related documentation. In fulfilling my duties, I do not view my role merely as a job, but as an opportunity that ensures my personal and professional development.

When facing challenges in the workplace, how do you maintain your motivation and commitment?

Creating opportunities for professional growth and learning from diverse experiences gives me strong enthusiasm. Furthermore, analyzing and resolving complex issues in compliance with legislation, along with working on projects that directly impact citizens’ daily lives and business operations, helps maintain my motivation and commitment. Ultimately, every challenge creates a new experience and an opportunity for growth.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Which principles do you consider essential for effective collaboration and teamwork within the Agency?

Adherence to safety regulations, adapting to new technologies, continuous improvement, optimal resource utilization, joint problem-solving, and risk management are crucial for effective teamwork. At the same time, I believe that experience sharing, a positive collaborative culture, accountability, a creative approach, and proactivity are equally important principles.

In terms of professional development, what key areas are you currently focusing on?

A professional must always remain open to innovation. I am particularly interested in green energy, energy storage, new technologies, and the implementation of smart systems, and I continuously study updated information in these fields.

What knowledge and skills do you consider essential for achieving success in the power engineering sector?

Acquiring strong theoretical and technical knowledge and understanding the legislative acts governing the sector are essential. In addition, studying the best practices and green energy technologies is critical. It is no coincidence that current industry challenges revolve around green energy, clean environment and eco-design requirements, integration of renewable energy sources, energy efficiency, energy security, and new technologies.

What key professional advice has guided you along your career path and remains valuable to you today?

The guiding advice for my career has been that human responsibility stands behind every decision. Therefore, I strive to take every step with responsibility and care, focusing on long-term outcomes. Today, this principle remains my core criterion for professional ethics, quality work, and growth.
