AERA experts participate in regional training in Germany

The Azerbaijan Energy Regulatory Agency (AERA) was represented at a regional training on the “New Roles of Distribution System Operators (DSOs) under the Clean Energy Package,” which took place from July 25-26, 2024, in Berlin, Germany.

The AERA delegation included Elmar Gulaliyev, Head of the Department of Energy Sector Liberalization and Investment Attraction, Mirmahammadali Aslanov, Head of the Energy Efficiency and Investments Department, and Ismayil Guliyev, Lead Specialist of the Strategic Planning and Innovations Department.

The training was organized jointly by the Council of European Energy Regulators (CEER) and the Energy Community Secretariat (EnCS) as part of the EU4Energy Phase II Programme – Promoting the Clean Energy Transition in the Eastern Partnership Countries.

The main goal of the two-day training was to inform representatives of regulatory bodies and market participants in the Energy Community about key elements of DSOs’ activities in facilitation of the integration of renewable energy sources and new market participants into the electricity market in the framework of the Clean Energy Package.

Speeches were delivered by representatives from CEER, EnCS, and several other institutions, providing participants with insights into European experiences.

Additionally, representatives from various regulatory bodies made presentations on the activities of DSOs. Elmar Gulaliyev, Head of AERA’s Department of Energy Sector Liberalization and Investment Attraction, gave a presentation titled “DSO in the Context of Reforms in the Electricity Sector in Azerbaijan.”
