AERA honors employees at CIS Power Engineer award ceremony

Azerbaijan Energy Regulatory Agency (AERA) held an award ceremony of recognizing its employees on October 20, Power Engineers’s Day.

Elchin Mammadov, head of the Technical normative regulation division, Hikmet Hasanov, head of the Strategic planning and innovation division and Parviz Aliyev, director of the Energy regulation and monitoring departament at AERA were awarded the Medal of the CIS, Honored Power Engineer.

Samir Akhundov, Chairman of the Board of AERA, pointed out that the important steps of the Azerbaijani President undertaken in energy sector puts  global spotlight on this industry.

He noted that the widespread use of renewable energy sources in the country through the diversified energy policy, the implementation of key infrastructure projects in the energy sector, as well as increasing the efficiency of the energy system is a clear example of solid basis created for energy sector in Azerbaijan.

Samir Akhundov thanked the employees for their years of dedicated service to the country's energy sector, congratulated them on their professional holiday and on being awarded of an honorary title and wished them a healthy and happy life, as well as every success in their future endeavors.

Rovshan Ismayilov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of AERA, also extended his sincere congratulations to employees for receiving an award and wished them a good health and creative success.

Awarded employees underlined that they are grateful to Management Board for being chosen as the Honored Power Engineer Award recipient and deeply honoured working with an experienced, innovative and professional team with great company culture.

At the end of the ceremony, medals were handed out to AERA employees and group photos were taken.

Power engineers celebrate their professional holiday on October 20 every year.


Brief information


Hikmet Hasanov has worked in a number of senior positions in the field of electricity for 28 years and has a total of 34 years of work experience. In 1980, he started working as an electrician at the Kirovneft oil and gas production department. He graduated from a  university with a major in education in energy economics and management, he worked as an economist and head of the planning and economics department in various government agencies. He worked as the head of "Shirvan" Energy supply and sales department at “Azerishig” OJSC. Since 2018, he has been working as the head of the Strategic planning and Innovations division of the Agency. In 2004, he was awarded the honorary title of "Honored Power Engineer" of the Commonwealth of Independent States.


During his 34-year career, Elchin Mammadov worked as an engineer, second-category engineer-designer, engineer-technologist at the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the Azerbaijan SSR. He worked as a deputy director of the main energy and commercial company in the factory of the Ministry of Local Industry of the Azerbaijan SSR. For 5 years he was an engineer in the Oil Pipeline Operation Department of SOCAR and for 6 years he headed the technical department in a commercial enterprise. For 15 years he worked at Azerenergy OJSC as deputy head of department, deputy chief engineer, chief engineer, director, chief. Since 2018, he is the head of the Technical normative regulation division of the Agency. In 2009, he was awarded the "Progress" medal of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for his services to the development of energy in Azerbaijan.


Parviz Aliyev began his career in 2003 at Barmek Azerbaijan Electricity Network, first as a electric meter technician and then as an engineer. Since 2006, he has worked as an engineer, department head, and leading engineer at Bakelektrikshebeke OJSC. In 2015-2017, he was a sales assistant at Aran RETSI of Azerishig OJSC. In 2017, he worked as deputy head and head of department at ASAN Kommunal. He joined the Agency in 2018 and currently holds the director of the Energy regulation and monitoring department position.
