The Azerbaijan Energy Regulatory Agency (AERA) was established under the Ministry of Energy as a public legal entity by Decree No. 1750 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, dated December 22, 2017.

AERA regulates relations between producers, transmitters, distributors, suppliers and consumers in the fields of electricity, heat and gas supply, and also organizes state control.

The purpose of the Agency’s activities is to ensure the efficient operation, sustainable development, and transparency of the relevant sector, to develop the sector by improving control mechanisms, to adapt services to the market economy, and to ensure the accessibility of these services to entrepreneurs.

Over the past years, AERA has implemented several important measures to improve the legislative framework, protect consumer rights, and study international experience in regulatory activities.

The Agency currently has 11 branches.
