Experts of the Hungarian Energy and Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (MEKH) held a seminar for the Azerbaijan Energy Regulatory Agency (AERA) staff about the electricity and natural gas issues. The seminar lasted for two days.

Vice-president for International Relations of MEKH Pal Sagvari and AERA’s Chairman of the Board Samir Akhundov, who participated in the seminar noted that Azerbaijan and Hungary could be considered as strategic partners, and there would be taken measures in order to strengthen the cooperation between these two countries. At the same time, it was noted that the exchange of views and organization of seminars could be very helpful to implement effective measures and joint projects in the field of energy regulation.

The two-day seminar mainly focused on the liberalization of energy market, general rules for the grid connection and existing infrastructure, monitoring the regulation activities, the structure of the electric and gas market, tariffs, regulation of the electricity system service quality, as well as natural gas market regulation and transition to the clean energy. All these issues were discussed and experiences were shared.

It should be noted that AERA and MEKH signed a Memorandum of Understanding in November 2021. According to this Memorandum both of sides will share their experience in energy field and arrange mutual internship programs and seminars.
