Azer Mammadov, Lead Inspector at the Shaki Branch of the Azerbaijan Energy Regulatory Agency (AERA), shared insights with the “Career Blog” about his role at the Agency.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree in “Power Plants” from the Faculty of Energy Industry and Power Engineering at the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy (currently Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University – ASOIU). Azer Mammadov began his career at the Shaki Branch of AERA in 2018 as an inspector and is currently serving as a lead inspector at the same branch.


How would you describe your work at AERA?

I am involved in control measures that assess the technical operation of electrical installations, ensure compliance with safety regulations, and monitor the usage of electrical energy. Additionally, I handle the investigation and resolution of citizen appeals. Since these processes often require referencing legislative acts, I consistently stay updated on any changes or innovations in this field.

What are your favorite aspects of your job?

The energy industry offers a wealth of both complex and innovative projects. I particularly enjoy staying abreast of the latest developments in the sector and gaining hands-on experience in integrating these innovations into our work processes.

What do you consider important in your professional activity?

Adherence to workplace ethics is a key criterion for professionalism in my field. It is also crucial to continuously work on self-improvement, especially by developing analytical skills. 

I also want to highlight the positive team spirit at AERA, which boosts productivity and minimizes errors in our work processes.

What is the best career advice you have received?

The best advice I have ever received is to surround myself with knowledgeable individuals and learn from their expertise. Both theoretical and practical knowledge are essential for effective performance, and it is vital to continuously develop and apply this knowledge in the workplace.

What do you think are the advantages of working at AERA?

One of the main advantages of working at AERA is the supportive and professional team, and the transparent work environment.
