The next interviewee of Career Blog is Nihad Baghirov, Deputy Chief of the Baku Branch of the Azerbaijan Energy Regulatory Agency (AERA). Nihad Baghirov earned his first Bachelor’s degree in 2014 from Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU), graduating with honors in “Oil and Gas Facilities Engineering”, and completed his second Bachelor’s degree in 2022 in “Electrical Engineering” at ASOIU.
He joined AERA in August 2018 as an inspector at the branch where he currently serves. In a short period of time, his performance was highly appreciated by the management, and from June 2020, he was appointed as Specialist and then Lead Specialist of the Energy Regulation and Monitoring Department at AERA. In January 2024, he was appointed as the Deputy Chief of AERA’s Baku Branch.
How would you describe your work at AERA?
I would describe my work at AERA as productivity, accuracy and teamwork. Our work is quite dynamic, and my duties require me to have both technical knowledge and communication skills. I mainly try to complete the assigned tasks in a timely and accurate manner, solve arising problems, and cooperate effectively with the team. My goal is to be open to innovations and continue my professional development.
What are your favorite parts of your job?
My favorite parts of my job are learning new information, researching and solving different problems. At the same time, working with the team on different projects makes my job interesting. When I start each new project, I approach it with the belief that it will succeed, and I consistently strive towards that goal.
What skills are essential for someone aspiring to build a career in your field?
Those pursuing a career in this field need proficiency in analyzing data to draw logical conclusions, identifying and solving problems, and possessing technical knowledge related to the field. Effective teamwork and communication skills are also crucial.
Moreover, adaptability and a commitment to continuous learning are essential due to the rapid evolution of the energy sector. These skills are instrumental in career advancement and achieving professional success.
