“Citizen satisfaction elevates my responsibility and passion about my job”

Shohrat Gadimov, Chief Inspector at the Baku branch of the Azerbaijan Energy Regulatory Agency (AERA), in an interview with Career Blog, talked about his work at the Agency.

Mr. Gadimov studied mechanical engineering at Azerbaijan Technical University. He worked as an engineer-public inspector, senior consultant and chief consultant in a number of government institutions.

He joined the Baku branch of AERA as Lead Inspector in 2017 and currently holds the position of Chief Inspector.


How would you describe your work at AERA? 

My main responsibilities include gas supply inspection, activities related to issuance of permits to industrial gas facilities, as well as controlling the quality of services. Additionally, I pay particular attention to the prompt investigation of incoming citizen appeals.

What are your favorite parts of your job?

Citizen satisfaction and appreciation received during the handling of citizen appeals elevate my responsibility and passion about my job.

What skills are essential for someone aspiring to build a career in this field?

As stipulated in paragraph 2.1 of the Charter of the Agency, the goal of AERA is to ensure the efficient operation, sustainable development and transparency of the relevant sector, to develop the sector by improving control mechanisms, to adapt services to the requirements of the market economy, as well as to ensure the availability of said services for entrepreneurs.

A person aspiring to build a career in this field should possess the capacity to meet the specified objectives and have the ability to work under stress without reducing the quality of work.

What motivates you to do your job better?

My passion about the energy sector, evaluation of the employees’ individual performance capacities, as well as full transparency are the main factors driving my motivation at work.

What advice would you give to those aspiring to join AERA?

In order to work in a place with a contemporary management system such as AERA, it is essential to acquaint yourself with the Agency’s Charter. If you are aspiring to work in a sector where the requirements of legislation are protected, discipline, sustainable development and transparency are ensured, AERA is the destination of choice.
