With the support of UK Embassy in Azerbaijan experts from Energy Regulatory Agency (AERA) and UK regulator “Ofgem” discussed “green tariffs” and shared experiences.

Shahin Maharramli, Head of the Tariff Sector of AERA, delivered a presentation on "Energy Tariffs and Methodology" and informed about the energy market of Azerbaijan and the existing electricity tariffs  as well as  the "Tariff Methodology" project developed by AERA.

Ofgem's Senior International Relations Officer Sam Rea shared the UK's experience in balancing system costs and "green tariffs" and mentioned the importance of a "green tariff" incentive mechanism.

Patrick Gould, Ofgem's Policy Manager, spoke about the history of “green tariffs” in the UK and the results of last year's survey on “green tariffs”. He noted that although half of consumers said that they were currently on the "green tariff", the lack of in-depth knowledge of its essence leads to information pollution. Emphasizing the importance of properly informing consumers in this regard, Patrick Gould also spoke about the "Decarbonization Action Plan" and the existing regulatory and technical solutions to optimize "green tariffs".

Thereafter the Chairman of the AERA-Board Samir Akhundov together with Acting Deputy Director of “Ofgem”, Wholesale Market Control and International Affairs Representative Nathan Macwhinnie and Director of the International Trade Department of the Embassy of the United Kingdom to Azerbaijan in Azerbaijan  Joel Derbyshire expressed gratitude for mutual cooperation and talked about the importance of this kind of discussions.
