On September 23-24, the Regional Association of Energy Regulators organized the 18th Annual ERRA Energy Investment and Regulation Conference in Riga. The event was attended by the chairman of the Energy Regulatory Agency of Azerbaijan Samir Akhundov, as well as about 200 delegates from more than 39 countries, including government officials from different countries, representatives of energy agencies and investors.

Opening the event, ERRA Chairman and CEO of the Estonian Competition Agency Mart Ots said that the solutions proposed by the regulators are necessary to support sustainable development in the energy sector.

Alparslan Bayrakdar, Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey, former Chairman of ERRA and Chairman of the ERRA Strategic Advisory Council, spoke about the role of regulators in the transition to the electricity market, stressing that they need to know technological developments and renewed roles in the energy market. Then the conference continued its work in various sessions.

Christian Ruby, secretary general of the Eurelectric Energy Association, said most of the European electricity market is carbon-free and that by 2045, the EU's energy sector will be fully carbon-free. Hando Sutter, CEO of Eesti Energy, also drew attention to how well the market is building at a time when the demand for renewable energy is growing.

Luca Lo Schiavo, a spokesman for the Italian Energy Regulatory Authority, spoke about the role of regulators in electric vehicle chargers, noting that smart charging is important and saves consumers money by charging cars during off-peak hours. may I help. The transition to the energy market and decentralization were widely discussed at the second session of the conference.

The conference also heard presentations from speakers from different countries on issues such as regulation of energy communities, cybersecurity of important infrastructure in the field of digital energy, regulation of the natural gas sector in the transition to an energy market. After the speeches, the conference continued in the form of questions and answers.

As a follow-up to the event, on September 25, a meeting was held with the participation of the ERRA Chairmen. The meeting was dedicated to the future activities of ERRA, ERRA appraisal study on tariffs for input and output of natural gas, revenue indicators; Presentations were made on a new set of tariff databases, creating a new EU energy market, cybersecurity, regulating long-term service contracts in monopolized utilities, developing and implementing market-friendly renewable energy support schemes.
